ATB (born February 26, 1973 in Freiberg , Saxony ; real name André Tanneberger ) is a German DJ and music producer .

childhood

André Tanneberger lived with his parents in Brand-Erbisdorf until he was about ten years old . However, he spent most of his childhood with his grandmother in Obersaida in the Ore Mountains , where he got to know country life. Due to the limited freedom to travel in the GDR , his parents applied for an exit visa in the 1980s. After a short stop in Auerbach / Vogtl. the family moved to the Ruhr area . There he initially felt himself to be an outsider during his youth due to his dialect. In retrospect, however, according to his own statement, this has strengthened him.

Career

He dared his first musical steps with his grandmother's zither . Later at 14 he learned to play the guitar . When he was 16, he switched to the keyboard and got a tape machine . With the help of Thomas Kukula , he was able to make his first studio recordings and got his first record deal.

From 1993 André Tanneberger was part of the dance project Sequential One . His first solo single under the code "ATB", 9 PM (Till I Come) , was released in 1998 and reached number 1 in the English and number 14 in the German charts . He made a name for himself worldwide and achieved platinum status in Denmark, Australia, Sweden and England . Gold awards followed in South Africa, Italy and Norway. The triumphant advance continued with the second single Don't Stop from his debut album Movin 'Melodies (1999) and was once again awarded platinum in Denmark and Sweden. The greatest distinguishing feature of the first ATB singles at that time was the unmistakable "ATB guitar", as the fans call it. Over the years, the ATB sound matured and became increasingly mature. The “ATB-Guitar” had become completely obsolete when Tanneberger released his third album Dedicated in 2002 . Their single Let U Go (2002), for which singer Roberta Carter Harrison from Canada contributed the vocals , is still the most commercially successful and best-known ATB title alongside 9 PM (Till I Come) (1998). Marrakech , the first single from the 2004 long player No Silence , even became the theme song for the Hollywood film Mindhunters by director Renny Harlin (including Deep Blue Sea , Die Hard 2 , Cliffhanger ).

Many more studio albums and hit singles have followed to this day . Most of his longplayers always managed to get into the top 20 of the German album charts .

ATB's style is most likely to move between Dream House , Trance , Ambient and Pop . His music productions are difficult to assign to a particular genre, but they are definitely in the electronic field .

In 1999 Tanneberger was on the international dance project " United Deejays For Central America " alongside Jan Wayne , DJ Sakin & Friends , DJ Tomcraft , Hypertrophy , Kai Tracid , Kosmonova , Marc Et Claude , Moguai , Oliver Momm, Piet Blank & Jaspa Jones , Phil Fuldner , Red 5 , Sash! , Woody van Eyden , who raised funds for the victims of Hurricane Mitch as a charity project . In 2002 he sued the German Eurodance band ATC because of the likelihood of confusion because of their name; Tanneberger won the legal dispute and the band split up under the longer name (“A Touch of Class”) a year later.
