Thomas Kukula

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thomas Kukula (* 1965 in Düsseldorf ) is a German DJ and music producer who mainly produced trance and eurodance under the pseudonyms General Base , Candy Beat , THK and Red 5 , especially in the 1990s .

Life

Kukula began working as a DJ in smaller Düsseldorf discos in 1986, where he became known in the scene through sampling . Only two years later this earned him a job at the Tarm Center discotheque in Bochum . Like other DJs at the Tarm Center, Kukula started producing his own pieces of music. First he founded the General Base project.

The first single as General Base was released in 1991 and was called My God, It's Full of Stars . With this track, Kukula shaped the style of the project. Commercial success was his 1992 released album First and Singles Back Again , Apache (a cover version of the song Apache of The Shadows in 1960), In Trance , Bidi Bidi - Do You Wanna Dance , Marilyn Monroe and Poison . The song Poison , initially published as an instrumental, only entered the charts after a version sung by Claudja Barry appeared. In 1994 the album First came in a revised version, now with Poison feat. Claudja Barry, Apache and Base of Love into the stores. More singles followed, with Rhythm & Drums and See You becoming dance hits again.

While General Base was immediately successful in its initial phase, Kukula founded another project with Candy Beat. The singles Sax'y (dance chart number 1) and Feel Alright are based on the same recipe for success as General Base.

The single France was released under the project name THK . The projects DUG, Jason King, Mystify, Space Corp. followed. 1 and White Moon, but they could no longer follow on from the success of General Base.

It was not until the Red 5 project , which was originally planned as a live act, that Kukula placed in the top 20 of the German charts with the hit Da Beat Goes . With I Love You… stop! , Lift Me Up , For This World / Red 5 Jumps and Da Bass followed more chart hits. From 2000 Kukula changed the name to DJ Red 5. With the single Rhythm & Drums 2001 the chart entry in Germany was achieved for the last time. Kukula had released the song almost 10 years earlier as General Base and in 1996 as DUG. In 2010 a new edition of Da Beat Goes followed , which entered the dance charts.

Kukula also created numerous remixes , including for Moby , Bass Bumpers , Maxx , The Good Men , Sequential One , Sheeva and United DJs. To this day he works as a music producer and DJ in Mülheim an der Ruhr.
