Red 5 is a music project by producer Thomas Kukula . With singles like Da Beat Goes and I Love You… Stop! chart successes could be achieved. In addition to Kukula, the singer Nadja Ayari, the singer and rapper Anthony "Lemar" Woods and the Spanish dancer Vanessa Garcia Sempere were part of the project. In addition, MC Miker G and DJs @ Work were involved . Since the late 1990s, Thomas Kukula has appeared alone under the pseudonym DJ Red 5. Several hits were later resumed as remixes.

history

Kukula had already launched several musical projects with projects such as General Base , THK and Candy Beat and some of them achieved chart successes. The Red 5 project was founded in 1995 and was originally only planned as a live dance act. Although initially rejected by some record companies, Red 5 was able to place itself in the top 20 of the German charts for the first time in 1996 with Da Beat Goes . The song comes from the Dutch rapper MC Miker G . In fact, it is a sample and originally comes from the title Show'm The Bass from 1989. For Thomas Kukula it was the second dance project with chart success after General Base.

The male vocal parts were mostly from Anthony Woods. Woods was originally from Manhattan and had guest vocals for other projects in the early 1990s. He was also seen in a commercial for C&A . He also brought the Tunisian Nadja Ayari to the group. Vanessa Garcia Sempere also joined the group in January 1997. She originally came from Barcelona , where she worked in the aerobics instructor field and came to Germany to study classical dance.

With I Love You… stop! , Lift Me Up and For This World / Red 5 Jumps , the group achieved a number of other chart successes. Nadja Ayari took over the vocals. Music videos were produced for the hit singles. One of the recurring identifying features was the football player wearing a red hard hat and number 5 jersey.

There were also several show appearances, including in the VIVA Club Rotation or at the ZDF Chart Attack . Gracia Sempere, Wood and Ayari usually formed the demanding dance trio and presented the group to the outside world. The dancers often wore red latex clothing. Kukula appeared only sporadically and stayed in the background. Occasionally the group was accompanied by other dancers or actors.

In July 1997 the album Forces was released , which also contained the earlier hit singles. In 1998 a few more singles appeared, but only the single Da Bass was able to place in the lower areas of the charts. From the end of the 1990s, Kukula single-handedly continued the project under the name DJ Red 5. Da Bass and Que Pasa / Rocking Affair were the first singles under the name DJ Red 5. However, the success of earlier days could not be repeated. With the single Rhythm & Drums 2001 , which was created with contributions from DJs @ Work , the chart entered Germany for the last time in 2001. Kukula had already released the piece ten years earlier with General Base and in 1996 as DUG.

In 2003, Da Beat Goes - Reanimated was remixed, this time with the interpreter DJ Red 5 vs. MC Miker G . A year later in 2004, I Love You Stop - Restarted, a remixed version of the second hit single was released.

In 2010 a new edition of Da Beat Goes followed , which entered the dance charts. The best-of compilation The Single Hits 1995-2010 also contained other singles.

Another remix was released in 2016 under the name Da Beat Goes 2k16. One year later I Love You Stop (All Mixes DJ Edition) was released . In 2019 DJ Chris C. released another remix entitled I Love You Stop! 2k19 (UltraBooster Bootleg Remix).
