history

Justify My Love was written by Lenny Kravitz , Ingrid Chavez and Madonna. Kravitz wrote the song based on a poem by Chavez, as the protégé of Prince was. The song is based on a programmed drum groove sample from Public Enemys Security of the First World . Chavez was initially not named as a co-author and sued Kravitz in 1992.

The song sparked controversy after its release due to its lyrics and music video, which takes up topics such as BDSM , voyeurism, and bisexuality . So it was felt by MTV as going too far and not played. Just a month earlier, Madonna, who had benefited from MTV in her career so far, appeared in an MTV commercial with no top and only wrapped in the US flag.

success
