After recording Crazy for You in 1985 for the soundtrack of the musical film Girl Crazy , John “Jellybean” Benitez also produced Gambler . The hit should then be heard at the beginning of the film. Since the song was produced on the Geffen Records label , it was not released in the United States at the request of the Sire Records label . Besides, Sire Records believed that the two soundtracks could reduce the chances of success of the other Like a Virgin releases Angel , Into the Groove and Dress You Up . To date, Gambler is the last song that Madonna wrote alone. It was published on October 3, 1985.
