Hanky Panky is a pop song by the American singer and songwriter Madonna . It was released as the second and final single from their soundtrack album I'm Breathless on June 30, 1990 on Sire Records . The song caused a lot of controversy and criticism because of the sexual and cheesy lyrics (to have a bit of hanky-panky) . Madonna only sang the song live on two world tours - in 1990 on the Blond Ambition World Tour and in 2004 on the Re-Invention World Tour . The song was played in the season 3 finale by Ally McBeal , entitled The Musical, Almost .
Commercial win
Hanky Panky debuted at number 40 on the American Billboard Hot 100 in the week ending June 30, 1990. At that time, her world hit Vogue was still number 1 . After several weeks the single reached number 10 and was awarded gold by the RIAA on September 19, 1990 . This single was Madonna's first since Like a Virgin that did not make it into the French charts . Hanky Panky became a top ten hit in Australia , Ireland , Italy , the United Kingdom, and the United States . In addition, the song reached top 20 placements in many countries around the world. In Great Britain , the single just missed number 1 with over 205,733 copies sold.
