Parents Music Resource Center

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) is a body founded in the USA in 1985 with the aim of informing parents about a specially diagnosed brutalization of texts in current music. A trend towards sexual and violence-related content as well as the glorification of alcohol and other drug use is pointed out. Complained songs were marked with X ( profane or sexually explicit 'profane or sexually offensive'), O ( occult ' occult '), D / A ( drugs or alcohol , drugs or alcohol ') or V ( violent ' violent ').

Founders were the so-called "Washington wives": Tipper Gore (wife of Al Gore ), Susan Baker (wife of Treasury Secretary James Baker ), Pam Howar (wife of Washington real estate agent Raymond Howar ) and Sally Nevius (wife of the chairman of the Washington city administration John Nevius ). The efforts of the PMRC were greeted by Sheila Walsh (singer) and Pat Robertson supported

The PMRC proposed voluntary self-regulation by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) together with the music industry. Guidelines and rating systems similar to those in the film industry should be established. Another suggestion related to warnings on the respective record covers . This proposal was finally implemented in the form of the parental advisory sticker.
