Rebel Heart Tour (2015)

The MDNA tour was the ninth concert tour of the US musician Madonna . She advertised her twelfth studio album MDNA . As part of the tour, concerts took place in Asia , Europe , North America and South America in 2012 . Madonna also performed for the first time in Colombia , Ukraine , Scotland and the United Arab Emirates . It was the second tour (before " Sticky & Sweet Tour ") that was under the contract with Live Nation . The tour became the most successful concert tour of 2012, grossing $ 305 million.

reception

The tour caused controversy from the start. For example, Madonna's excessive display of violence was criticized in the first part of the show, especially during the song Gang Bang . In Istanbul, Madonna bared her breast, which was followed by a great media coverage and discussions about this appearance. During the intermediate piece Nobody Knows Me , Madonna shows the French politician Marine Le Pen with a swastika on her forehead. Le Pen, head of the right-wing National Front party , threatened Madonna with a lawsuit if she also showed the video at the concert in France. However, Madonna didn't stop the threat of consequences from the show. The concert in Paris took place unchanged on July 14th.

The three Germany concerts in Berlin and Cologne met with positive media coverage. The show has been described as a stage masterpiece with lots of new ideas. Madonna's interpretation of her old hit Like a Virgin , which was presented as an intimate ballad with piano accompaniment, received particular praise .

In Moscow, Madonna stood up for the imprisoned band Pussy Riot and demanded their release during the concert, which earned her criticism from ultra-Orthodox Christians. Believers burned Madonna portraits before and after the concert and protested. In St. Petersburg, Madonna spoke out in favor of tolerance towards homosexuals. Local politicians promptly reported Madonna for violating the "gay propaganda" law that exists in St. Petersburg. Video material of Madonna's speech, combined with testimony, was submitted to the prosecutor as evidence. At the same time, many Russian homosexuals praised Madonna's courage to express their points of view at the point of focus. For the concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg there was also a security warning from the American embassy, as various threats of violence had been received beforehand if the concerts were to take place as planned.

layout

In addition to eight new tracks from the MDNA album, Madonna also presented many classics and fan favorites. In addition to Like a Virgin , songs like Papa Don't Preach , Express Yourself , Open Your Heart , Vogue , Human Nature and Like a Prayer can also be heard. The almost two-hour show was divided into four acts. The Basque Kalakan Trio supported Madonna on several songs.

The tour costumes were mainly designed by Jean Paul Gaultier and Arianne Phillips . As on previous tours, Madonna played guitar on some of the songs. In the band there were again long-time companions like Monte Pittman on guitar, Kevin Antunes on keyboard and drummer Brian Fraser Moore. Madonna's former partner Brahim Zaibat was one of the 22 dancers. In addition, two slackliners were involved in the show.

Recordings and broadcasts

Madonna's concert on November 19 and 20 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami , Florida was recorded for DVD. The show was originally supposed to be filmed in Colombia , but this was not realized due to the director's time problems.

On July 26, 2012, Madonna gave an additional concert in the Olympia concert hall in Paris . The concert was broadcast live via YouTube on the LoveLiveTV channel. Madonna came on stage late and only played nine songs in just 45 minutes, including Turn Up The Radio as the opener, Open Your Heart and Masterpiece as the following hits and other songs such as Vogue and Human Nature . She was booed after the concert and severely insulted.

During the start of the tour in Tel Aviv , small excerpts from Girl Gone Wild , Express Yourself , Give Me All Your Luvin ' , Turn Up The Radio and Like A Prayer were filmed and published.

At the beginning of September, a live recording of the tour in the form of an album as well as a DVD and Blu-Ray was released under the title MDNA World Tour . The Blu-Ray Edition was heavily criticized by customers because, in the opinion of many buyers, it had image errors. The manufacturer Universal said in a statement that all effects were used as stylistic devices and that there are no image errors.

The German first broadcast on Free TV took place on New Year's Eve 2013/2014 at midnight on 3sat. Here the concert recording from Miami was shown in full as part of the 3sat special "Pop Around The Clock".
