The Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes , until October 2010 Estadio Olímpico Chateau Carreras , often simply called Estadio Córdoba or Estadio Olímpico de Córdoba , is a football stadium with an athletics facility in Córdoba , Argentina .
history
The Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes was built from 1976 to 1978 for the 1978 World Cup . From a German perspective, the stadium has been associated with the shame of Cordoba since the World Cup . It was renovated and expanded for the Copa América 2011 . The spacious stadium with flat stands was equipped with steeper stands on the back straight and in the curves, which improved the proximity to the field and thus the view of the game. The four covered stands are named after famous footballers from Córdoba.
- Tribuna norte Daniel Alberto Willington - Main Stand, North
- Tribuna sur Luis Fabián Artime - Opposite stand, south
- Tribuna este Roberto Gasparini - Behind Gate Corner, East
- Tribuna oeste Osvaldo César Ardiles - back gate, west
Since then, the stadium has a capacity of 55,144 seats, of which 34,824 are seated and 20,320 are standing.
Although the Córdoba-based football clubs CA Talleres , Instituto Atlético Central Córdoba , CA Racing and CA Belgrano have their own stadiums, they usually play important games in the larger and more comfortable Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes.
The Argentine national rugby union team ( Los Pumas ) played a few games in Cordoba. The Rugby Union Association of Cordoba also used the stadium every year for the decisive championship games. In 2006 and 2007 a special stage of the Rally Argentina took place in the stadium .
On October 21, 2010 the stadium was renamed in honor of the football player Mario Alberto Kempes .
