The Estadio Malvinas Argentinas ( German  Stadium of the Argentine Malvines ), until 1982 Estadio Ciudad de Mendoza ( German  Municipal Stadium of Mendoza ), is located in the Argentine city of Mendoza . It was built between 1976 and 1978 and served as a venue for the 1978 World Cup . The facility offers a total of 40,268 seats, 20,268 of which are seated and 20,000 are standing.

Until 1982 the stadium was simply called Estadio Ciudad de Mendoza . Then it got its current name in the middle of the Falklands War ( Spanish Guerra de las Malvinas ) between Argentina and the United Kingdom for patriotic reasons.

In 2001 the stadium was one of the venues for the Junior World Cup , which took place in Argentina.

Since the CD Godoy Cruz football club's first ascent to the Primera División in 2006, the stadium is the first to host matches in the top Argentine league.

The venue was also one of the eight venues for the 2011 Copa América .

At the beginning of 2011, renovations took place on the occasion of the Copa Libertadores . This work included the entire replacement of the seats, including a new grandstand roof. An LED screen with an area of 128 m² was also installed, the largest in South America.
