The Estadio José Amalfitani ( German  José Amalfitani Stadium ) is a stadium in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . It is the home ground and property of the Argentine first division club CA Vélez Sársfield . Within Argentina, the facility is also known as El Fortín , outside the country it is often named after its main user, Vélez Sársfield .

history

The stadium, located in the Liniers district , was built from 1947 to 1951 and inaugurated on April 22, 1951 with the game CA Vélez Sársfield against River Plate Buenos Aires (2-2). Most of it was rebuilt for the 1978 World Cup . It holds 49,540 spectators, although - as is often the case in Argentina - it is not all about seats.

The stadium is used regularly for rugby union games and concerts . The Argentine national rugby union team regularly plays its international matches here. The rugby union club Jaguares , which takes part in the international Super Rugby competition, has also played its games at El Fortín since 2016 .
