history
The stadium stands on land acquired by a foundation established in 1905 in honor of Donald McLean, who made large purchases of land from the Maori in the area. Initially, the stadium received 1000 standing places in 1912, which were expanded over time. At first, the stadium was primarily used for highland games and athletics events, before it was first used by rugby and then increasingly for cricket since the 1950s. Numerous modernization measures were carried out in 2009, including a floodlight system.
