The Rotorua International Stadium is a stadium in Rotorua on the North Island of New Zealand . It is located on Devon Street West on the southwestern outskirts and is mainly used for rugby union and rugby league games. It serves as one of two home stadiums (next to Baypark Stadium in Tauranga ) for the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union national team in the national championship ITM Cup . It is also the home of the Rotorua United football club; Occasionally, Waikato FC plays home games here in the New Zealand Football Championship .
The stadium opened in 1911 and has been expanded several times since then. Today it has a capacity of 34,000 spectators. It is often used for concerts, for example since 2008 for the annual Raggamuffin Music Festival . During the Rugby Union World Cup in 1987 , the Rotorua International Stadium was the venue for the third place match, and during the Rugby Union World Cup in 2011 , three preliminary round matches will take place here. Several rugby union and rugby league international matches have also taken place here. A softball field is integrated into the stadium at the northern end .
