The Bistum Taungngu ( lat. : Dioecesis Tunguensis ) is an in Myanmar preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Taungngu .

history

Taungoo Cathedral

The diocese Taungngu was on November 27, 1866 by Pope Pius IX. Established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate of Burma as the Apostolic Vicariate of Eastern Burma . On April 27, 1927, the Apostolic Vicariate of Eastern Burma gave up parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Kengtung . The Apostolic Vicariate of Eastern Burma was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Toungoo on April 27, 1927 .

On January 1, 1955, the Vicariate Apostolic Toungoo by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Dum alterna raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Yangon as a suffragan . The Diocese Toungoo gave on March 21, 1961 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Taunggyi . On July 31, 1996, the Toungoo Diocese was renamed Taungngu Diocese . The Taungngu diocese was subordinated to the Taunggyi Archdiocese as a suffragan on January 17, 1998.
