The Archdiocese of Taunggyi ( Latin : Archidioecesis Taunggyiensis ) is an archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Taunggyi , Myanmar .

history

The Archdiocese was founded on March 21, 1961 as the Diocese of Taunggyi (Latin Taunggyiensis ), a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Yangon from the Diocese of Toungoo by Pope John XXIII. founded; first bishop was John Baptist Gobbato PIME . Pope John Paul II raised the diocese to an archbishopric on January 17, 1998.
