Matthias U Shwe
Matthias U Shwe (born December 1, 1943 in Kamai ) is a Myanmar clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Taunggyi .
Life
Matthias U Shwe was ordained a priest on April 12, 1969 .
Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Taunggyi and titular bishop of Uzippari on December 20, 1979 . He was ordained episcopate on December 13 of the next year by the Bishop of Taunggyi, John Baptist Gobbato PIME ; Co - consecrators were Gabriel Thohey Mahn-Gaby , Archbishop of Rangoon , Paul Zingtung Grawng , Bishop of Myitkyina , and Sebastian U Shwe Yauk , Bishop of Toungoo .
On December 18, 1989, he was appointed bishop of Taunggyi. With the elevation to the archbishopric on January 17, 1998 he was appointed Archbishop of Taunggyi.
Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on April 12, 2015.
