Gabriel Thohey Mahn-Gaby

Gabriel Thohey Mahn-Gaby (born September 19, 1927 in Kanazogon ; † May 5, 2016 ) was a Myanmar clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Yangon .

Life

Gabriel Thohey Mahn-Gaby was ordained a priest on December 21, 1951 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 9, 1964 Koadjutorerzbischof of Rangoon and Titular Archbishop of Stauropolis . The Archbishop of Rangoon, Victor Bazin M.EP , donated him episcopal ordination on February 2nd of the next year ; Co- consecrators were George Maung Kyaw , Bishop of Bassein , and Sebastian U Shwe Yauk , Bishop of Toungoo .

With the resignation of Victor Bazin on June 19, 1971, he succeeded him as Archbishop of Rangoon. During his tenure, the archdiocese was renamed the Archdiocese of Yangon in October. On September 30, 2002, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
