Titular Archdiocese of Stauropolis

Stauropolis ( Italian : Stauropoli , Latin : Archidioecesis Stauropolitana ) is a titular archbishopric of the Roman Catholic Church .

It goes back to the former archbishopric of the ancient city of Aphrodisias , which was called Stauropolis in Byzantine times , in the Caria landscape in the southwest of today's Turkey . The city was the seat of the metropolitan of the ecclesiastical province of Stauropolis, to whom the bishops' seats of Anatetarte , Bargylia , Kidrama , Tabai , Harpasa , Loryma , Hyllarima , Hieron , Eriza , Knidos and Iasos were assigned as suffragan dioceses .
