The diocese of Massa Carrara Pontremoli ( lat. : Dioecesis Massensis-Apuana , ital. : Diocese of Massa Carrara Pontremoli ) is in Italy located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church , headquartered in Massa .
The diocese of Massa Carrara was founded on February 18, 1822 by Pope Pius VII with the Apostolic Constitution Singularis Romanorum Pontificum from areas of the diocese of Luni, Sarzana and Brugnato and subordinated to the Metropolitan Archbishop of Pisa as a suffragan diocese.
In 1939 the diocese was renamed Apuania and on September 30, 1986 in Massa diocese . On February 23, 1988 Pope John Paul II united the diocese of Massa-Carrara with the diocese of Pontremoli and gave it its current name.
