history
The diocese of Volterra was established in the 5th century and is directly subordinate to the Holy See . On August 1, 1856, the diocese of Volterra was by Pope Pius IX. subordinated to the Archdiocese of Pisa as a suffragan with the Apostolic Constitution Ubi primum .
