The Roman Catholic Diocese of Parma ( lat. : Dioecesis Parmensis , ital. : Diocese of Parma ) is in Italy situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Parma .
history
The diocese of Parma was established in the 4th century and was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Milan as a suffragan . In the middle of the 5th century it was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Ravenna . On August 10, 1058, Parma Cathedral was destroyed by fire. Outside the city, construction of a new cathedral began in 1059 on the site of an early Christian basilica . The cathedral was completed in 1074 and consecrated by Pope Paschal II in 1106 . On January 3rd, 1117 this was damaged by an earthquake and had to be rebuilt.
In 1582 the diocese of Parma was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bologna as a suffragan. On May 26, 1806 it was placed under the Archdiocese of Genoa and on March 30, 1818, the Diocese of Parma became an immediate diocese. Since August 14, 1892, the Bishop of Parma has also had the title of Abbot of Fontevivo . On December 8, 1976, the diocese of Parma was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Modena-Nonantola as a suffragan.
