Embryotoxicity

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Embryotoxicity is the property of exogenous substances ( xenobiotics ) to cause harmful effects on the developing child through absorption through the womb during the embryonic phase . Since during this phase, which in humans lasts from the 18th day of pregnancy to the 8th week of pregnancy, the organs are formed and the organ differentiation takes place, organ damage after exposure to embryotoxic substances is to be expected. Embryotoxicity can manifest itself, depending on the severity, in lethality , teratogenicity or growth retardation.
