The Palácio Ribamar is a palace in the center of the Portuguese town of Algés .

history

It was built in 1729 for Dom Francisco de Paula de Portugal e Castro (1679–1749) on the site of the former Convento de São José de Ribamar . Later it was owned by the Marquis de Valença and the Condes do Lumiar . In 1872 the Conde de Cabral acquired the palace. After his death, the property passed to his heirs, the Marquis da Foz .

From 1920 the casino The Splendid Foz Garden was operated in the rooms . In the 1930s, the Hintze Ribeiro palace served as a summer residence. In the meantime a primary school was housed there. From 1940 the Junta Autónoma de Obras de Hidráulica Agrícola used the building as its headquarters. In 1962, the Câmara Municipal of Oeiras bought the palace. After renovation, it opened in July 2001 as a local cultural center with a gallery, community library and tourist office. The Centro de Dança de Oeiras also has its home in the building.
