The Bistum Myitkyina ( lat. : Dioecesis Myitkyinaensis ) is an in Myanmar preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Myitkyina .

history

The Diocese of Myitkyina was founded on January 5, 1939 by Pope Pius XI. established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Burma as the Apostolic Prefecture of Myitkyina . On February 21, 1961, the Apostolic Prefecture of Myitkyina by Pope John XXIII. raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Quod sacrum and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mandalay as a suffragan . The Diocese of Myitkyina gave on August 28, 2006 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Banmaw .
