Basilio Athai

Basilio Athai (born July 22, 1956 in Kyekadaw ) is a Myanmar clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Taunggyi .

Life

Basilio Athai was ordained a priest on April 1, 1984 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on June 28, 2008 titular bishop of Tasaccora and auxiliary bishop in Taunggyi. He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Delegate in Myanmar , Salvatore Pennacchio , on November 18 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Matthias U Shwe , Archbishop of Taunggyi, and Sotero Phamo , Bishop of Loikaw .

With Matthias U Shwe's resignation on April 12, 2015, Athai was appointed Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Taunggyi. Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Taunggyi on June 24, 2016.
