Joseph P. Strelka

Joseph P. Strelka (born May 3, 1927 in Wiener Neustadt ) is an Austrian Germanist.

Life

Joseph P. Strelka grew up in Wiener Neustadt. He studied German philology with Oskar Benda from 1945 to 1950 and obtained his doctorate with the dissertation Feudal-Romantic Movements in Renaissance Literature and their Development. At the beginning of the 1950s, he headed the cultural office of the city of Wiener Neustadt. Until 1958 he headed the literary studies working group at the Institute for Science and Art and completed his habilitation at the University of Vienna . In 1964 he was appointed Associate Professor of German Literature at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. From 1966 to 1971 he taught at Pennsylvania State University, then until 1997 at the State University of New York in Albany.
