The Eden Park is the largest stadium of the New Zealand city of Auckland . Rugby Union is played in winter and cricket in summer . The 50,000-seat stadium is three kilometers southwest of the city center on the border of the suburbs of Kingsland and Mount Eden. The main users are the rugby teams Auckland Rugby Football Union (in the ITM Cup ) and Blues (in the Super Rugby ).

The area around Eden Park has been used for sports purposes since around 1900. Cricket has been played here since 1910, particularly test cricket and one-day cricket . The Auckland Rugby Football Union has also been based here since 1925. The final of the Rugby Union World Cup 1987 took place at Eden Park. For the 2011 World Cup , the capacity was temporarily increased to 60,000 spectators through additional stands. At this event several preliminary round matches as well as the game for 3rd place and the final in Eden Park took place.
