Participants are all 16 NRL clubs.

regulate

The rules at the NRL Auckland Nines differ in many ways from the normal NRL rules. The main differences are:

  • A game lasts 2 × 9 minutes with a two-minute half-time break.
  • A team consists of nine players and five substitutes.
  • There is no video evidence .
  • There is a so-called "bonus zone" behind the crossbars of the rugby goal. If an attempt is placed in the bonus zone, it counts not four, but five points.
  • Raises and kick-offs are executed by drop kick.
  • Time penalties only last three minutes.
  • Possession changes after five tackles.
