The Penrith Panthers are an Australian rugby league club from Sydney . The team has been in the top national league, today's National Rugby League , since 1967 . The primary club colors are black and turquoise, the secondary white and pink. The Panthers play their home games in the 22,500-seat Penrith Stadium .
history
In 1967, the New South Wales Rugby Football League (NSWRFL), which at that time consisted exclusively of teams based in Sydney, took on a team from the western district of Penrith for the first time. However, the Panthers were unable to sign experienced players and recruited their team almost entirely from their own offspring. The first two decades of the club's history were characterized by almost complete failure, it wasn't until 1985 that Penrith could reach the play-offs for the first time . In the following years, the Panthers were able to muster a real top team for the first time, which proved to be competitive against the big clubs in the league. In 1990 Greg Alexander and John Cartwright's team moved into a Grand Final for the first time , but lost to the Canberra Raiders with 14:18. In 1991 Penrith won his first minor premiership as the best team of the regular season , and was then able to take revenge in a new edition of the previous year's final against the Raiders and win the first championship title with a 19:12 success. Shortly after the triumph, however, the successful team disintegrated and the Panthers fell back into sporting insignificance. In 2003, Penrith surprisingly won the Minor Premiership for the second time , after having received the Wooden spoon two years earlier . As in 1991, the team confirmed its form in the play-offs and won the second championship by 18: 6 in the Grand Final against the favored Sydney Roosters . But again, the success was not permanent: Another wooden spoon followed in 2007, and since winning the second title, Penrith has only managed to survive the regular season four times.
