Adelaide Rams

The Adelaide Rams were an Australian rugby league club from Adelaide . The club was the only one from South Australia to ever play in Australia's top rugby league, but only survived two seasons.

history

The Adelaide Rams were launched on December 13, 1995 to participate in the Super League founded by Rupert Murdoch . Although rugby league has traditionally been relatively unpopular in South Australia, the Rams' games at the Adelaide Oval were extremely well attended in their inaugural 1997 season. However, Adelaide could only win six of its 18 games and finished the season in penultimate place. In 1998 the team was taken over into the newly founded National Rugby League . Here they were hardly more successful with seven wins from 24 games and the number of spectators fell rapidly. In the course of the downsizing of the NRL for the 1999 season, the Adelaide Rams were finally dissolved.
