The Wests Tigers are an Australian rugby league club from Sydney . The club was founded in 1999 as a joint venture between the Balmain Tigers and the Western Suburbs Magpies . The club colors are orange, black and white. The Tigers competing in the National Rugby League play their home games at either the Campbelltown Stadium , Leichhardt Oval or ANZ Stadium .

history

As a result of the reduction of the National Rugby League from 20 to 14 teams for the 2000 season, the Balmain Tigers and Western Suburbs Magpies had to merge to ensure their survival in Australia's top division. Until 2005, the fans of the new team had to wait for the first participation in the play-offs . But then the Tigers marched straight through to the Grand Final and defeated the North Queensland Cowboys with 30:16. A permanent establishment as a top team did not succeed, however, since winning the title, the team only survived the regular season twice .
