Balmain Tigers

The Balmain Tigers were an Australian rugby league club from Sydney . With eleven championship titles, the Tigers in orange jerseys were among the most successful teams in the New South Wales Rugby League Premiership . In 1999 the club merged with the Western Suburbs Magpies to form the Wests Tigers .

history

The Balmain Tigers were a founding member of the New South Wales Rugby Football League (NSWRFL) in 1908 . They soon became an absolute top team and won five championships between 1915 and 1920 alone. The Tigers experienced their last "Golden Era" with five consecutive appearances in the Grand Final between 1944 and 1948, three of which were victorious. The last title was won in 1969 as an independent club. In 1988 and 1989 you could move into the Grand Final again before you experienced a sporting crash in the 1990s. In total, Balmain won eleven championships and nine runner-up championships. In 1999 the merger with the Western Suburbs Magpies took place .
