NSWRL 1988
The NSWRL 1988 was the 81st season of the New South Wales Rugby League Premiership , the first Australian rugby league championship. The first place in the table after the end of the regular season occupied the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks . They lost in the semifinals 2: 9 against the Balmain Tigers , who lost in the final 12:24 against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs . The Bulldogs won the NSWRL for the sixth time.
In 1988 three new teams were added with the Brisbane Broncos , Gold Coast-Tweed Giants and Newcastle Knights , bringing the number of teams to 16. It was also the first time in the history of the competition that teams competed outside New South Wales .
