NSWRL 1926

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NSWRL 1926 was the nineteenth season of the New South Wales Rugby League Premiership , the first Australian rugby league championship. First place after the end of the regular season went to the South Sydney Rabbitohs . They won the final 11: 5 against a team from the University of Sydney and won the NSWRL for the sixth time.

Between 1912 and 1925, the format of the NSWRL provided that the team won the title that took first place in the table after the regular season. There was a final only if the first and second in the table were equal on points. This had a decreasing interest in the competition in the final rounds, so that it was decided to introduce a playoff series between the four best-placed teams.
