history

In the course of the downsizing of the National Rugby League , several teams, especially the less financially strong ones, were forced to merge with competitors in order to be able to maintain the game operations. The Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and the North Sydney Bears merged to form the Northern Eagles. However, it was particularly difficult for the fans of the Bears to give up the name and home of their traditional club. The sporting success of this joint venture also remained modest. In their three seasons from 2000 to 2002, the Eagles never reached the play-offs . From 2003 the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles competed independently in the NRL, the North Sydney Bears were henceforth only active in the second-rate New South Wales Cup .
