The Gold Coast Titans are an Australian rugby league club from Gold Coast , Queensland . history

From 1988 to 1998 there was already a first-class rugby league club in Gold Coast with the Gold Coast Chargers , which, however, was dissolved in the course of the intended downsizing of the NRL despite the good financial situation. Instead, the league sought to settle a second team in Brisbane alongside the Broncos . After this project failed, however, Gold Coast tried again to get its own NRL team. In 2007, the newly founded Titans finally started playing in Australia's elite league. The results have remained poor in the first two seasons, despite the signing of some prominent players such as Scott Prince and Matt Rogers. In 2009 the Titans reached a strong third place in the regular season and thus the finals for the first time , but missed the Grand Final after defeats against the Brisbane Broncos and Parramatta Eels . In 2010 Gold Coast made it into the top 4, but failed in the semifinals at the Sydney Roosters . This remained the Titans ' greatest success to date , followed in 2011 by a sporting slide that ended with the "win" of the Wooden spoon . In the following years Gold Coast always failed in the regular season. In addition, the club suffered from massive financial problems: In February 2015, the NRL had to take over the license for Titan , otherwise bankruptcy would have been inevitable. In 2016 Gold Coast returned to the finals after a six-year absence , but lost to the Brisbane Broncos in the first round.
