Hermann Rauff

Carl Friedrich Hermann Rauff (born December 26, 1853 in Berlin ; † June 22, 1942 there ) was a German geologist and paleontologist .

Rauff studied from 1873 at the Bergakademie Berlin and the University of Berlin and from 1876 in Bonn, where he received his doctorate in 1878 (on the chemical composition of nepheline , cancrinite and microsommit). From 1879 he was a chemist in the Concordia smelter near Bendorf , in 1880 at Friedrich Krupp AG in Neuwied as an operations assistant and in 1882 operations manager in the iron works in Dillingen / Saar . In 1889 he completed his habilitation in geology and paleontology in Bonn, where he was titular professor from 1896 and from 1904 to 1922 full professor at the TH Berlin and the Bergakademie Berlin. He was a privy councilor. In 1877 he became a member of the German Geological Society . In August 1912 he was one of the 34 founding members of the Paleontological Society .

His daughter Lotte was married to the historian Karl Hampe .
