Adam Blair (born March 20, 1986 in Whangarei ) is a New Zealand rugby league player. He was part of the New Zealand National Rugby League team , which won the Rugby League World Cup for the first time in 2008 .

Career

Blair attended in his birthplace of Whangarei , the Whangarei Boys High School, where he was the Melbourne Storm discovered at the age of 16 years. In 2002 and 2003 he already played for the New Zealand U-20 national team and for the Northern Suburbs Devils , a farm team of the Stormers in the Queensland Cup . Because of this, he also moved to Queensland, where he went to Wavell State High School.

In 2006 he made his NRL debut for the Stormers. He took part as a substitute in the NRL Grand Final and was voted rookie of the year by the Stormers.

On October 14, 2006 he made his debut for New Zealand against Australia as part of the Tri Nations 2006. In August he was included in the New Zealand squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup . Before the start of the World Cup, he put in the playoffs his first NRL attempt against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in the playoffs. During the World Cup he became the Man of the Match in a group game against Papua New Guinea and put an attempt against Australia in the final that New Zealand won 34:20.

In 2009 he was voted Man of the Match in his first NRL game and made it to the NRL Grand Final with the Stormers, where he tried. He also took part in the Four Nations 2009 as Vice-Captain of New Zealand , which automatically enabled him to participate in the 2010 NRL All-Star Game.

Blair joined the Wests Tigers for A $ 500,000 . His last game for the Stormers was a game against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles , which is referred to as the "Brookvale Brawl" due to a brawl that resulted in a playoff suspension for him.

In his first season for the Tigers, Blair played 23 games. Since he gained little space on average and missed a tackle an average of three times per game, he was called one of the “biggest flops of 2012”. Despite this criticism, Tigers coach Mick Potter stuck to him, praising his communication and leadership skills.

In 2013, Blair was the only Tigers player to appear in every single game. However, his form had become so bad that the Daily Telegraph asked, "Is Adam Blair the worst engagement in the NRL?"

In 2014 his performance improved very much, which is why he took part in the traditional ANZAC test against Australia with New Zealand . He was the Tigers player with the second most tackles and hit-ups and, like the year before, took part in every game. With New Zealand he won the Four Nations in 2014 , in which he participated in every game.

On November 18, 2014, it was announced that Blair had signed a three-year contract with the Brisbane Broncos .
