Benjamin Quentin "Benji" Marshall (born February 25, 1985 in Whakatāne , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand rugby league player. He is currently playing his eleventh season for the Wests Tigers in the National Rugby League . He is known for his flamboyant attack, including lunges, no-look passes, and flick passes. In 2010, Marshall won the Golden Boot Award for World's Greatest Player.

Benji was born on February 25, 1985 in Whakatāne , a city in the east of the Bay of Plenty on the North Island of New Zealand . He was the first child of 16-year-old Lydia Marshall. He never met his birth father and was raised by his mother, his mother's siblings and foster parents Annalie and Michael Doherty. Very early on, he began his athletic career in all kinds of sports. Mostly he played touch football with the whole family. At the age of 16 he got a scholarship to Keebra Park State High School on the Gold Coast in Australia to play rugby league .

Career

In 2003 Marshall made his NRL debut for the Wests Tigers in the 20th round. In the 24th round Marshall scored his first NRL attempt against the Penrith Panthers. In 2004 he came due to two shoulder injuries only to seven missions in which he was able to achieve two attempts. In 2005 he won the NRL PremierShip with the Tigers.
