The Adelaide Oval is a stadium in Adelaide, Australia . It is mainly used for sporting events such as cricket and Australian football .
history
The stadium opened in 1871 after the formation of the South Australian Cricket Association. In an expansion and renovation between 2008 and 2014, the seating capacity was increased from 34,000 to 53,583.

Cricket
The stadium serves as the main venue for South Australian Cricket Association games. The first test was held in the stadium in 1884. It was also the scene of the culmination of the Bodyline Affair , when English players were accused of deliberately throwing the balls at the bodies of Australian batsmen . One-Day International has been held in the stadium since 1975 and since 1997 there has been a floodlight system that allows games to be played in the dark. After three matches were played here at the 1992 Cricket World Cup , the 2015 edition will host three preliminary round matches and a quarter-final match in the stadium.
Australian football
For a long time the stadium was used for games, mainly for the finals of the South Australian National Football League . The two teams from Adelaide have played their home games here in the Australian Football League since the 2014 season .
Other usage
During the Rugby Union World Cup 2003 , two preliminary round matches were played in the stadium. Football and rugby league games were also held in the stadium. The stadium is also used for concerts.
