LMFAO was an American electro house - / Hip-Hop - Duo from Los Angeles , in 2010 through the track Gettin 'Over You by David Guetta & Chris Willis Feat. Fergie & LMFAO became known. The duo consisted of rapper Redfoo , a son of Motown founder Berry Gordy , and his nephew SkyBlu. With Party Rock Anthem in 2011 in particular , they also landed a great dance hit in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Band history
LMFAO was founded in 2007 by Stefan Kendal Gordy alias Redfoo and his nephew Skyler Austen Gordy alias SkyBlu. Redfoo is a son and SkyBlu is a grandson of Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr. The two grew up together in Pacific Palisades . The duo wanted to call themselves Sexy Dudes first, but changed their name to LMFAO due to a chat conversation between SkyBlu and his grandmother. In this he mentioned the band name Sexy Dudes, to which she replied with LMFAO. The internet acronym stands for “Laughing my fucking ass off” - in the same way: “I'm laughing off my fucking ass”. They started out in the electro house club scene in Los Angeles and sparked ever greater enthusiasm through appearances and radio shows there. When the two had enough songs together, will.i.am , Redfoo's best friend, introduced them to Jimmy Iovine of Interscope Records , who immediately offered them a contract. On July 1, 2008 they released an EP version of their first album Party Rock on iTunes . On July 7, 2009, the full album followed, which debuted at number one in the dance albums and reached number 33 in the official album charts. LMFAO's first commercial success came with Party Rock Anthem from their second album Sorry for Party Rocking . Later followed Champagne Showers , Sexy and I Know It and Sorry for Party Rocking . For Super Bowl XLVI , they appeared together with Madonna in the halftime show.
LMFAO attracted attention with their brightly colored clothes and extra-large, colorful glasses frames without glasses. During their first appearances, they wore bright, self-printed T-shirts with the band logo or the lyrics of their songs. This resulted in a whole collection of shirts, jackets, glasses and pendants, which they sell through their own fashion label Party Rock Life .
In September 2012, the duo broke up. They later denied this news and called it creative break.
