The Smoothie King Center is a multi-purpose arena in the US city of New Orleans in the state of Louisiana . It is located in the city's central business district, next to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome .
history
The arena has been home to the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA since 2002 . The Tulane Green Wave basketball team at Tulane University also uses the arena for their games. It is also used for high school basketball games and other events. The now dissolved ECHL club New Orleans Brass played in the New Orleans Arena for their last three seasons before it ended in 2002. From 2004 to 2008 and from 2011 to 2015, New Orleans VooDoo , a team of the Arena Football League , played their home games in the arena out.

Hurricane Katrina
After Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005, medical care that was previously housed in the Superdome was moved to the arena.
