A sports and entertainment complex has been built on an 11 acre (44,515 m 2 ) property.

history

On May 22, 2012, the Golden State Warriors gave a press conference in San Francisco in the presence of co-owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber , then NBA Commisoner David Stern , San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom . It was announced the return of the team to San Francisco and the associated construction of a new arena for the Warriors . The San Francisco Warriors were based in the city from 1962 to 1971. The Warriors Waterfront Arena should be completed by the 2017/18 NBA season.

A site on the shores of San Francisco Bay near the Bay Bridge , not far from the AT&T Park baseball stadium, which is home to the San Francisco Giants ( MLB ), was selected for construction. One month after the plans were presented, there was resistance to the construction project. The South Beach-Rincon-Mission Bay Neighborhood Association had concerns that the construction would change the mixed-use neighborhood with mostly housing developments along the Embarcadero and lose its family-friendliness. Around 80 seasonal Giants games take place in the AT&T Park every year . In the new hall there would only be 40 home games of the Warriors , but concerts, shows and other events would also take place in the arena.

The Golden State Warriors released first rendered images of the new arena in September 2014 . The reactions to the design by the Snøhetta architecture firm were very negative, as the design of the hall resembled a toilet bowl. Revised plans were presented in December 2014. The architectural office MANICA Architecture is responsible for the new design in collaboration with Gensler (interior design). On January 27, 2016, it was announced that the US bank JPMorgan Chase & Co. will be the name sponsor of the new arena for twenty years .

The Mission Bay Alliance formed to prevent the arena from being built. They fear the events will result in an even higher volume of traffic on the street and in public transport, more noise, rising taxes, worsening parking situation and increasing crime. The UCSF Children's Hospital is located near the building site . In mid-July 2016, the Warriors won a trial against the Mission Bay Alliance. San Francisco Superior Court Judge Garrett Wong upheld the environmental impact report for the new multi-purpose arena.

On January 17, 2017, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction project took place. The loyal fans in the Oakland area feel betrayed by the construction and subsequent relocation of the Warriors to San Francisco. In mid-March of that year, the Warriors announced further details of the hall. The event hall will have 18,064 seats. Between the upper and lower tier there will be a circumferential ring with 44 boxes with an average area of 55 m 2 . In the old Oracle Arena these only offer around 25 m 2 . Furthermore, 32 lounges are planned at pitch level. The entrances to the upper tiers allow a view of the playing field. In this way, visitors who are on their way to the stalls can continue to watch the game. Over 50,000 m 2 of office space, more than 9,000 m 2 of retail space and over 30,000 m 2 of public areas and parks as well as 1,000 parking spaces are planned on the 110,000 m 2 site . The financing of the hall lay entirely with the Warriors ; the hall is also operated by the franchise. From the opening in September 2019, 200 events will take place annually in the new multifunctional arena.

Around six months before the opening, the Golden State Warriors generated around 1.8 billion euros with the new arena. This sum was achieved through corporate partners such as the namesake JPMorgan Chase & Co. as well as Accenture , Pepsi , HPE , United Airlines , RingCentral and Google Cloud .

June 2019 gave the NCAA - college basketball team the San Francisco Dons ( West Coast Conference ) from the University of San Francisco known that on 9 November of double header with two games at Chase will take place Center. The women's team competes against Stanford Cardinal . Then the men's team of the Dons meets the Princeton Tigers . More games are to follow.

Shortly before the official opening, the first event took place in the Chase Center. At the meeting were u. a. the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and other members of the Bay Area business community present. Before that, the ribbon was symbolically cut in a ceremony on September 3rd.

The opening took place on September 7, 2019. As the first official event there was a concert of Metal - band Metallica with the Orchestra San Francisco Symphony .

On October 5, 2019, the first game of the preseason between the Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers took place. It was the home side's first game in their new home. Golden State lost 101: 123. After the botched premiere, the Warriors also had to admit defeat in the first home game of the regular season at the Chase Center. The Los Angeles Clippers won clearly with 122: 141.
