The Spectrum Center is a multi-purpose hall in the US city of Charlotte in the state of North Carolina . It is used as a venue for the Charlotte Hornets from the National Basketball Association (NBA). Furthermore, various events and concerts take place. The hall opened in October 2005 with a concert by the Rolling Stones . The first home game of the then Charlotte Bobcats took place on November 5, 2005. The arena is owned by the city of Charlotte and operated by the Hornets .

The arena opened as the Charlotte Bobcats Arena in 2005 . On April 8, 2008, it was announced that Time Warner Cable , the city's largest cable television operator , would be the arena’s name sponsor . The contract also contained the television rights. In May 2016, Time Warner Cable was acquired by Charter Communications . With the takeover, the Hornets arena also received a new name for the 2016/17 season . Since then, the hall has been called the Spectrum Center , after Charter Communications' digital brand.
The audience capacity is 19,026 for NBA games, but can be expanded to 20,200 for college games or NBA playoff games. The Charlotte Checkers , a minor league ice hockey team that was active in the ECHL , also played in the arena . From 2010 to 2015, a team of the same name from the American Hockey League played their home games in the arena. When the Checkers played, the audience was reduced to 14,100 and the venue was named the St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Time Warner Cable Arena .
Furthermore, in the Spectrum Center u. a. Family shows , circus , rodeos , monster truck races , exhibitions , fairs, and political and religious gatherings take place. In early September 2012, the Democratic National Convention was held in the arena .
The NBA has selected the hall as the venue for the NBA All-Star Game 2019 .
