biography
Private life
After he was married once, he announced in 2012 at the first Holy Ship! Festival, which takes place on a ship, that he had become engaged to the American DJ Gina Turner. On October 1, 2012, the wedding took place in Piermont, New York.
Van Scheppingen is also active in Kung Fu , especially in the area of Choy Li Fut. 2013 participated with the team Kung Fu Holland at the world championship in China. The 4-man team won 23 gold medals and five silver medals.
In the beginning he produced his songs mainly with FL Studio . During his career he switched to Ableton Live .
Career
Laidback Luke grew up in the Netherlands and first made a name for himself as a graffiti sprayer before turning to music. He initially started remixing until he released his debut single Double 0 in 1998. Then his first studio album Psyched Up was released . In the following years appearances in bigger and bigger clubs followed and also the first collaborations with other musicians. With the single Rocking with the Best , released in 2000 , he reached the Dutch single charts for the first time. In 2003 the single We Can Not Get Enough! , which was used as the anthem for the "Dance Valley Festival" and advanced to the top 5 of the Dutch singles charts. At the same time, he received remix orders for increasingly successful DJs such as Daft Punk and Steve Angello .
In the next few years numerous other singles appeared, including in collaboration with the Swedish House Mafia , David Guetta and Martin Solveig . Laidback Luke toured numerous countries and hosted a number of shows in Europe, North America, Japan and Ibiza. He celebrated greater success in 2009 with a remake of the song Show Me Love by the American singer Robin S. with which he first became known beyond the borders of his home country. In the same year he landed a hit with the track Leave the World Behind , which he produced together with the Swedish House Mafia. Remixes for Beyoncé , Coldplay and Madonna , among others , followed. In the summer of 2009 he made his first appearance at the Tomorrowland Festival in Belgium.
In 2010 Laidback Luke published the song Till Tonight in collaboration with the singer-songwriter Jonathan Mendelsohn, with which he celebrated successes in Belgium as well as in the Netherlands. The song's vocals were used for numerous mash-ups , including the instrumental piece Sunshine by Avicii and David Guetta . The mash-up has been played at numerous festivals and viewed several million times on YouTube. With the follow-up single Turbulence , which was created in collaboration with Steve Aoki and US rapper Lil Jon , he entered the charts in Great Britain and Australia in 2011. A short time later, the single Natural Disaster was released together with the British singer and rapper Example , with which Laidback Luke achieved a chart placement in Great Britain.
In the following years, more and more collaborations with great DJs appeared. Including with the DJ brothers Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike on the song More , which is best known for a remix by the DJ duo Blasterjaxx , and Martin Solveig for the single Blow . His remix for the song Blurred Lines by the US singer Robin Thicke with TI and Pharrell Williams also became well known. In 2014, among other things, the progressive house tracks Collide and Memories with Project 46 and singer Collin McLoughlin as well as the big room single Mufasa with Peking Duk, with which he reached high placements in the Beatport Top 100, were released.
Laidback Luke started 2015 with the single SAX which he recorded together with the German DJ and producer Tujamo . The single is based in particular on Tujamo's EDM style. Together they hit the Belgian singles charts and were able to move up to the top of the German dance charts. They also re-recorded Luke's 2000 production Rocking with the Best . At the Ultra Music Festival Miami he played some of his previously unreleased productions. He also gave a seminar where he explained how to hang up correctly. In his eyes this is taken too simply. It's more than just standing behind the mixer and letting the music run through.
This was followed by the singles Beat of the Drum with Angger Dimas and Mina, as well as a vocal version of the song XXX entitled Outer Space , which contains vocals by Kris Kiss. He also released a collaboration with the Chocolate Puma duo entitled Snap That Neck and together with Moska and Terri B Get It Right . In autumn 2015, he announced with the release of the pre-release single Let It Go , which is sung by Trevor Guthrie , that he had almost finished work on a new album. The album was released a month later with the title Focus . The style of the album was very different from that of his other productions, which was praised on the one hand, but was also criticized on the other. There was no success either for the tracks or for the album.
On February 8, 2016, the last single from Focus was released in the form of the song The Chase , which was created in collaboration with GTA and singer Aruna. A surprising collaboration with Afrojack with the title Move to the Sound followed in May 2016 . Hawkboy vocals are also included. Although the track made it into the Beatport Top 100, the song met with criticism from most listeners. The reason was the "outdated sounds" and the category of the song not emerging.
Together with jungle terror producer Mike Cervello, Front 2 the Back was released a week later on Yellow Claw's record label "Barong Family". With Yves V and Hawkboy he returned to his typical electro house style in the summer of 2016, until he tried his hand at groove and future house for the first time through a collaboration with Twoloud and the single Fcuking Beats . Before Laidback Luke, W&W are said to have been involved in the creation of the song. The track developed into a festival hit and counted many plays from different DJs.
Together with Will Sparks , he moved for the first time in the bounce. So was promiscuous published September 5, 2016 song by Alicia Madison. Mad Man was released in autumn 2016. This is a collaboration with the Dutch big room and jungle terror producer Kura , which character traits are reflected in the single accordingly. The track brought him into the top 30 of the Beatport charts.
In 2017 he developed his sound in a slower and more melodic direction. With the song XOXO he joined the growing popularity of future bass music. He got support for the single from big room producer Ralvero and singer Ina, which was released on February 24, 2017. Together with Made in June and the American singer Heather Bright , he released the tropical house song Paradise in April 2017 .
