It was released on February 14, 2005 by Jive Records as the second single from the album - worldwide only with the exception of North America .

Do Somethin ' was written and produced by the Swedish team Bloodshy & Avant, who worked with Spears on Toxic from their fourth studio album, In the Zone . The song was recorded at Murlyn Studios in Stockholm . The song is written in the key of E minor. Spears' vocal range extends from note E3 to note C5.

The song, produced by Bloodshy & Avant, was never meant to be released. However, it was a wish of Spears and so it was realized. Do Somethin ' is a dance pop song, lyrically it refers to having a good time and not listening to what others are saying about you.

The song received positive reviews from critics. Although the song was not released in the USA, it reached a chart position due to high download numbers. Worldwide, the song achieved further high chart positions, including the top ten position in countries such as Australia , Denmark , Sweden and Great Britain .
