The Singles Collection is the second compilation by the American pop singer Britney Spears . The collection was released as a reminder of its tenth anniversary with their record company Jive Records. The compilation was made in many different formats, including a single disc edition, a CD + DVD edition and a box set containing 29 singles packed in a slipcase with the original cover. The CD + DVD edition and the box set contain a DVD with music videos. The album also includes a new track: 3 , produced by Max Martin and Shellback.

The album reached the top 10 in Japan and the French compilation charts and the top 40 in Australia, Mexico, New Zealand and the United States, as well as in a number of European countries. 3 was released as the only single from the album, after all, all other titles are songs that have already been released. In the United States, the song debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became the first song to do so in three years. It is her third number one hit in the US.

On July 12, 2009, Spears confirmed on her Twitter account that she had started recording new material. She said she works with Swedish songwriter and producer Max Martin.

On September 23, 2009, Jive Records officially announced the release of the greatest hits album called The Singles Collection via Spears' official website, due to its ten years in the music industry. It is their second greatest hits album after Greatest Hits , released in 2004 : My Prerogative . It has been confirmed that the release date is November 24th, 2009 and that there is a new single, 3 , produced by Max Martin. The compilation was available in two editions, a standard edition and a box set. The Standard Edition includes a single CD with 18 songs including 3 . The box set contains all 29 songs including 3 , whereby in the box set every single single is housed in a cardboard slipcase with the original cover, where there is also a B-side or a remix. The box also includes a book with pictures and facts about each song as well as a DVD with all music videos. On October 14, 2009, Jive Records announced in a press release that the date for the standard version was brought forward to November 10, 2009. The date for the box set stayed the same.

Commercial win

In the US, the album debuted at number 22 with 26,800 sales in the first week. To date, the album has sold over 172,000 copies in the United States. The album has sold over 40,000 copies in Canada and was awarded gold. In Mexico, the album debuted at number 15 and was awarded gold for over 30,000 sales. On November 23, 2009, the album debuted in Australia at number 23. In the same week, it also debuted at number 22 in New Zealand. The album reached the top 40 in Belgium (Wallonia), Denmark, Greece, New Zealand and Norway, and was located also in the charts in Belgium (Flanders), Finland, Spain, Great Britain and Germany.

After the Glee episode aired on Spears, the album returned to number 47 in the UK.

A return to 74th place was also recorded in Ireland. Since then, the album has improved to number 51.
