background

On September 28, 2005, Jive Records announced that Spears would release a remix album entitled Remixed . On November 8, MTV's Jennifer Vineyard reported the title would be B in the Mix: The Remixes and it would be released on November 22, 2005. The album includes songs from their previous albums, which were remixed by DJs like Peter Rauhofer and Stuart Price . Price had previously mixed In the Zone's "Breathe on Me" for the limited edition Greatest Hits: My Prerogative album . B in the Mix: The Remixes also includes a new song, "And Then We Kiss", which was originally intended for Spear's fourth studio album, In the Zone , but was ultimately not included. B in the Mix: The Remixes is distributed between two different album covers. A butterfly is shown on the album for the North American market. On the cover of the album for the world market, Spears himself is shown behind the butterfly.

About.com's Kurt Kirton praised the remixes of "Everytime" and "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know," but criticized the low number of songs. He concluded his review with the summary that the album was suitable for Spears and club music fans. Barry Walters of Rolling Stone described the album as redundant to Greatest Hits: My Prerogative , with the difference that every song except Toxic is better than the original. IGN's Spence D. wrote that if he had to choose a Spears album to purchase, he would take it. Stephen Thomas Erlewine from Allmusic commented that B in the Mix made a different impression than Spears' previous releases. The album is nothing more than an insignificant piece of music. MTV journalist Bradley Stern described the album as a collection of excellent tracks, the undisputed highlight of which was And Than We Kiss .

Bay Area Reporter's Gregg Shapiro rated the album mostly negatively. He found Spears' voice to be "cold and mechanical" compared to the original. Mike Daniel of The Dallas Morning News called the Justice Remix of "Me Against the Music" the best track on the album, but found the album to be hastily produced and poorly put together. " Entertainment Weekly journalist Leah Greenblatt found the remixes aggressive and psychedelic which makes it worth hearing. "
