The AH Belo Corporation is a listed Texan media company based in Dallas . AH Belo publishes The Dallas Morning News , Dallas’s main newspaper , as well as its Spanish-language sister newspaper Al Día. The Dallas Morning News is one of the top-selling newspapers in the United States . In the first quarter of 2018, the newspaper had a daily circulation of around 200,000 copies.

The AH Belo company goes back to a newspaper publisher founded in Galveston in 1842 . Under the editor-in-chief Willard Richardson, The Daily News became known throughout Texas and was soon distributed by rail across the state. In 1865 Alfred Horatio Belo took over the post of editor-in-chief and became the majority owner of the publishing house. From 1885, The Dallas Morning News was published. It wasn't until 1926 that the publisher's managing director, George Bannerman Dealey, renamed the company to AH Belo Corporation. Alfred Horatio Belo died in 1901 at the age of 61. From 1950 the AH Belo Corporation rose increasingly into the emerging business of operating television stations. The company's shares were traded OTC from 1981 and on the NYSE from 1983 . In 2001 the name was changed from AH Belo Corporation to Belo Corporation . A separation of the newspaper business from the television stations in 2008 led to the establishment of a new company which took on the old name of the group as a whole, AH Belo Corporation. The AH Belo Corporation became a pure newspaper publisher, while the Belo Corporation continued to exist as a pure operator of television studios. Belo Corporation was acquired by Gannett in 2013 .
