Work Bitch ( stylized as Work B ** ch! ) Is a song of American pop - singer Britney Spears . It was released as the lead single from their eighth studio album, Britney Jean, on September 15, 2013.
background
Back in 2012, Spears worked with Will.i.am on the song Scream & Shout , which turned out to be a huge commercial success in the course of 2013; in March 2013, the singer confirmed that Will.i.am is acting as executive producer of the eighth studio album. At the end of August 2013 it was also confirmed that Spears was preparing for a new album with a singing and dance coach.
At Work Bitch Spears co-wrote; the song was created in collaboration with Will.i.am, Otto Jettman , Sebastian Ingrosso , Anthony Preston and Ruth-Anne Cunningham. The mixing was done by Joe Peluso. On September 15, 2013 it was prematurely released by RCA Records as the first single from the eighth studio album, after the song had been illegally posted on the network the day before.
The music video was shot in Malibu, California ; The director was Ben Mor . Because of the bold content, Work Bitch cannot be shown in Great Britain until 10 p.m. Work Bitch is part of her Las Vegas show Britney: Piece of Me .
composition
Work Bitch contains a beat by the Swedish DJ Otto Knows . Knows Manager Sebastian Ingrosso is also listed as the author of the song, although according to his own statement, he was not involved in the text. The song, composed in four-four time and E minor , has a tempo of 124 beats per minute . The vocal range goes from b3 to b4.
criticism
Work Bitch received mostly positive reviews . As part of the album review for Britney Jean , Sven Kabelitz from Laut.de stated that "I enjoy the work bitch, which sums up all the Tinnef that I [the editor] have mocked so far". Stephan Müller from Plattentests.de simply called the song "without a doubt a club board". The Rolling Stone gave the song four out of five stars and wrote: "Will.i.am makes the perfect design for a new Britney: A great thing that is easy to sing". "Work Bitch feels a bit like a bunch of phrases and melody snippets on the hunt for a suitable song, but the end result is more appealing," wrote the Guardian of Work Bitch .
Commercial win
Work Bitch was unable to build on the success of Spears' earlier singles in German-speaking countries. The song entered the German single charts on September 27, 2013 at number 41. In the fourth week of the chart, the best ranking was achieved with 36th place. In total, the song spent twelve weeks on these charts. The song also missed the top 20 in the Ö3 Austria Top 40 and in the Swiss Hit Parade . In the UK singles charts , Work Bitch went straight to number 7 on November 16, 2013, making it Spear's 25th top 10 success in the UK. Nevertheless, the song fell out of the top 20 in the following week and was only able to place in these single charts for five weeks.
In the Billboard Hot 100 , the song debuted at number 12. In the second week of the chart, Work Bitch fell back to number 41, and when the music video was released, the song rose to number 13 in the third week of the chart. It is Spear's 31st chart success in the United States. For over 1 million copies sold, the song was awarded a platinum record by the Recording Industry Association of America in February 2018 . The song achieved further top 10 placements in France (6th place), Italy (6th place) and Spain (8th place).
